About thirty years ago Ron North periodically met up with some of his schoolboy friends who used to play around the Northaw Pond as children. They were disappointed to see how overgrown the pond had become and they decided to clear it. OnceĀ  this had been achieved Ron North mentioned to the Council that he was prepared to continue to maintain the pond and surrounds and this was agreed.

The pond which was thought to be an old Gravel Quarry had two oak posts at either side (only one of which is still standing today) and a chain was fitted between between them to prevent cattle going too far into the pond.

Ron continued to look after the pond on his own for many years, but by 1999 he felt he could do with some assistance. Don Fry agreed to help and they continued together until Ron died in 2006.

In apprectiation of all his efforts, the Council decided to name the pond ” The Ron North Pond” and a placque was erected and a seat installed both bearing his name.

Don Fry has now been joined by David Miller and they continue the good work in maintaining the pond and surrounds.
